MFW - Handmade Home Decor - Summer

Happy Easter Sunday everyone!

I have been working working on some projects for the Handmade Home Decor Challenge at Moxie Fab World - this one is for the Summer Challenge....

I had previously altered this cage for a City Crafter Challenge - it was using a free vintage image from
the Graphic Fairy, but I decided it need a make over.

This time I have used an image of Budgies ( I used 3 copies) and water coloured them, then fussy cut and layered with foam. I then added some twine to make it look like they are on a swing.
I tried many different papers and water colour backgrounds, but in the end I knew it had to be clean and graphic - so I used this Amy tTangerine paper and added a bit more colour detail.
I then stamped the sentiment.  I tried various different things on the bottom of the cage (flowers, cream seed beads and sequins, but in the end it had to be CAS, so I left it plain. I just added the bow and I was done. I learnt something in the process - LESS really is MORE!

Hope you like it!

Runway Inspired Ric#32 Take 3 & MFW Speech Bubble Challenge

I had an die cut oval of the glitter paper from the last card for the RIC challenge, so I decided to turn it into a speech bubble and do yet another card for both challenges.

I diecut the heart and exclamation mark and covered in glitter. The panel is mounted on foam.
I'm not sure which makes the most mess - glitter or boa feathers. I'm just off now to vacuum up the little bits of feather floating around and getting up my nose! I've always wanted to use this on a card, but always felt it was a bit too much. I quite like it here!

I've just realised I can enter this in the Moxie Fab World Chevron Challenge as well!

Runway Inspired Ric #32 and MFW Emphasize the Negative

Happy weekend and 2 weeks school holidays here - which also means Mum's holiday!
For those of you who may have read my earlier posts, Emma has got the all clear and is allowed to go to Vietnam with her Dad. So that means My son and I are home alone plus the 2 terrors (pups).

Here is another card for the Runway Inspired challenge.

I have used Memory box dies for the butterflies. The black card is  mounted with foam to
create a bit of depth behind the negative die cut. I have included lots of sparkle and shimmer.

I'm also entering this in the MFW Emphasise the Negative challenge.

Moxie Fab World Washi/Chevron/Ombre

I can't believe it's Thursday and Easter is this weekend.
Just a quick post before I take Emma to the hospital to find out if she can still go to Vietnam tomorrow.

I made this card last night, specifically for the Ombre challenge - can you see the changing gradient in the letters? Then I decided to use Washi tape for the butterfly and border and the border is a chevron pattern! So this card is for 3 MFW challenges.

Yesterday a lady went passed me, she was wearing a dress with chevron print. It caught my attention because the pattern was vertical on the skirt and horizontal on the bodice.  It occurred to me that ever since I've been following MFW that I never stop looking at everything around me, wondering how I can translate it to a card! I hope that lady didn't see me staring!

Moxie Fab World - 2 Challenges /2 Cards

Hi, this is my second post today! I'm at home looking after my daughter who is recovering from Appendicitis, so in between being nurse, I'm putting some finishing touches to unfinished projects.

The first card is for the Moxie Fab Chevron challenge - another Easter card.

The background stamp is Christy Tomlinson Poppy Chevron - I have stamped with Versa colour
Pink Petal, then brushed pearl white perfect pearls over the image. Next I used some pale water colour paint in green and yellow and flicked it over the image.  The bunny and metal garland come from a local Homewares store and I altered them to suit the card.
I am also entering this card in the Scrapbook Boutique challenge and the Simon Says - Anything Goes Challenge.

The second card is for the Moxie Fab World Emphasise the Negative Challenge.

Now I need to explain how I did this and why it fits this challenge (I hope)
1. Used a mask on a piece of scrap paper and sprayed mist
2. Removed the mask and dried the paper
3. I carefully cut out the negative with a craft knife
4. I then laid my 'new mask' on a piece of canvas and used a stamp to get the pink pattern
5. Dried the pattern with heat gun and then inked over it with versa mark and used clear embossing powder
6. Put the original mask over this image and sprayed the background with glimmer mist

This card was really a bit of experimentation for me.  I didn't really think about the colours -
I just used what I had.  I was quite pleased that I got the effect I wanted. Now I'm  really got me pining for a Silhouette!

Moxie Fab World - Ombre Challenge

Hi friends! This next card is so not me! I haven't made a 'cute' card since my children hit double figures and thought they were too old for anything cute.

I decided to make another card for the MFW Ombre challenge and I felt like getting inky again.

I used watercolour paper and masked off the border, then using various chalks and chalk inks,
I sponged the panel until I got the effect I wanted. Then I decided I wanted an open pattern
stamp image so that the ombre effect would still be hi-lighted.   I then sponged a little bit more on the flower and Teddy's ears. I decided to go without a sentiment, because the image says it all! I then mounted the panel on a black card base.

PS: I think I may have discovered the time and place to take photos. This was taken at dusk, with the soft light coming through the window and I used cream card as a back drop. At last I'm happy with a photo!

Moxie Fab World -TT Elegant Emerald

What an interesting 10 days we've had! First my son was sick with bad cold/cough, then we had a weekend away watching my daughter compete in the Head of School Girls' rowing. Then my 15 yo daughter had vaccinations for a trip to Vietnam, next morning she fainted and hit her head in the bathroom. Took her to doctors, she said she was ok. Next morning she complained of stomach pains and started vomiting (4th time in a few months). I'd discussed the possibility of Appendicitis with the Dr, but was told it couldn't be that, because it doesn't recur over such a long period.
After a couple of hours of enduring the pains, I decided to take it in my own hands and take her to hospital. She was operated on the next morning and indeed had acute appendicitis.  Poor darling!
She is now at home resting and still hoping to go to Vietnam this Friday.

While I was in hospital with her, I picked up a magazine with free stamps and I have used 3 of them to make this card for the Tuesday Trigger.

I have stamped the head image with Archival black
(I wiped the black off the mouth and used red marker).
I coloured the flowers in hair with intense pencils and perfect pearls
for a bit of shimmer. Then I stamped the flower image on the corners with white ink and clear embossed. Next was the fun bit, I sponged the card with various inks and then sprayed with sea glass glimmer mist (masking the head). Then I stamped the sentiment in gold on vellum and inked the heart in the hair with a versa mark pen and used gold sparkle embossing powder.

I think I'll give this to my daughter to cheer her up.

Runway Inspired & MFW Ombre & Speech Bubble challenges

Yay! It's a gorgeous Autumn day here in Melbourne, crisp morning and now glorous sunshine, but not too hot. Ahhh, I think I might get outside to get some vitamin D!

Today I have made an Easter card. I had some wooden bunnies and I decided to alter one using a gradient of glitters to make an ombre effect, then I added the sentiment in a speech bubble.

Its a bit hard to see, but there are 5 shades of glitter, the difference in the last 2 is minimal.
I decided to mount the embellishments on acetate.
The silhouette effect is cute!

Moxie Fab World - Emphasize the Negative

Here is another card for the Card Creations Week, this time it's for the 'Empasize the Negative' challenge.

I"m sorry about the poor quality photo - it was windy and the card kept blowing over, so it was a bit difficult.

I have several layers here - the top layer has the largest oval die cut from the centre and was then embossed with small dots folder. the middle layer had a smaller oval cut from the centre and the last layer was dry embossed with the rose folder and then sponged with chalk and perfect pearls.
The layers were all mounted with foam to add extra depth.
The sentiment was die cut and inked with gold and then embossed and then reinked and sprinkled with pink/ gold perfect pearls and heat set.
The stamped rose is from PTI Rosie poise and mounted with foam.
I seem to be stuck on pink and green at the moment, not sure what's happened to me - it's Autumn in Australia.

A Blog Named Hero - Make Your own Embellishment

I've got lot's of home made embellishments, as I'm sure we all do, which I've been meaning to use, but I made a new one, so I hopefully I'll make another card.

So anyway, I noticed on Cecilia's blog that Tim Holtz had a challenge using the tattered flowers die and  since I haven't yet mastered this die, I thought I should have some practice. Mine is different to to Tim's method, because I used DP instead of paint, but I intend to try that for my next attempt.

Here is my card...

I used more of the gorgeous Authentique DP - I got some 1/2 price pads at the last Craft Fair.
The sentiment is from PTI.
The card base is from a stationary store - I love the natural look. Cecilia told me about this shop
Paper Point selling Neenah Solar White paper and when I went there I found they also had lots of Washi and other enticing goodies!

Have a look here if you want to join the fun
at A Blog Named Hero

or TIM HOLTZ

I forgot to mention that I based this card on the sketch for the Retro Sketch challenge
so I shall enter their challenge too.

Simon Says a bit of Green!

Hi, just a quick post as domestic chores beckon.. I am entering this card in the Simon Says Stamp Challenge, which is to include a bit of green, in honour of St Patrick's Day (my Mum's birthday).

I have loved this stamp set for a while and I still see a lot of people using it. So I decided it was a must have 'classic'.
The paper is from Authentique - I adore there paper - the texture is fantastic, such amazing quality.
The sentiment is from Kikki K  I used some distress inks around the edge, because the paper is quite grungy.

Quickest Post Ever

One more card for the Moxie Fab Camera Crazy Challenge! I got this Bo Bunny stamp set at a craft fair last week.

2 Cards/ 2 Challenges

Hi, if you happened to read my last post, you'll notice I was was going a bit crazy, due to the heat.
I had lost part of the card I was making for the Runway Inspired challenge, but thankfully, after yet another look, I found it under a magazine (which I had already looked under!). So here it is...

The inspiration photo...

And here is my card ....

So while I was photographing the above card, I took a photo of a card I finished yesterday. It is my second entry for this weeks Case Study Challenge -

This is Julie Ebersole's card

And this is mine

The background is dry embossed and sanded.
The image, from Hero Arts, is coloured with distress markers on to the stamp, spritzed and then stamped on water-colour paper. It was then die cut and mounted on the card.

I had a bit of distraction when I was lying on the grass
trying to get a photo of the card.

HELP!!!! The heat has finally got to me!!!

Today we broke the record of the longest number of days in a row over 30degrees - 9 days.
It's been high 30s most days and over 20 min most nights.  It is Autumn here, not summer!

Well, this is why I think I've finally cracked - I  made a panel to go on a card, then put it somewhere,
while I stamped and coloured an image on another piece of card. Then I couldn't find the 1st card, so eventually I made another one. Then guess what, I can't find the stamped image!!!!!
UGGGHHHH!!!! I wan't to go and sit in a pool and sip a very cold drink! Pity I don't have one.
So here I am - I'm hoping it will suddenly appear while I'm sitting here typing.
Should I wait a little longer?  Mmmm...

Another Moxie Fab Challenge - Speech Bubbles

Well I've been hoarding this one in my stash for a very long time - it's from Crate Paper's Kaitlin Collection. The fact that I remember the name, shows how much I loved this collection.

Here is my card for the Moxie Fab Speech Bubble Challenge.

I decided to use some of my old Winnie the Pooh books as a nostalgic prop, so I also used a bit of creative editing (not sure if I like it, but I was creating a mood!).

Case Study #131 - Julie Ebersole!!

Yep, that's right, there's a super fab and very inspiring muse this month at the Case Study Challenge - the amazing Julie Ebersole. Who doesn't love her work!!!!?

This is the first card we get to case...

And this is my card....

I made this card for my Brother and SIL as my Brother recently had surgery for  Cancer and is starting Chemo in a couple of weeks. The Doctors were quite happy with the surgery, so we are all praying for a positive result after the chemo.

More Washi Tape

Happy Sunday (Australia time)! I've been playing again. This time with Lumiere paints and stamps - hopefully I'll get a card out of my experimentation.

In the meantime I made another fun card for the Washi Tape challenge at Moxie Fab World  - I just bought some more WT from Kaisercraft (the gorgeous butterfly and music), so I just had to use it! I love the mix of bright colour with the vintage b & W pattern.

Moxie Fab World - Card Creation Week - Washi Tape

Well as we swelter through another ridiculously hot day, I am staying out of the heat and having fun with my Washi tape.

I decided to case my own card which I made last week for the Case Study Challenge.
I wanted to make it a bit more CAS. One of the the fun things about  Washi tape is that the pattern is on a small scale, so it is perfect for using as a collage on small objects such as die cuts.
This card is for the Moxie Fab World, Card Creations Week - Washi Tape challenge..

I like this version better, although I think I should have added a bit of tape for grass again.
The sentiment is from Jane Davenport's Stamping Bella stamp.
Jane is an amazing artist and fantastic teacher.

Tuesday Trigger - Pattern Play

Happy Monday! Sorry to all those working people, but I love mondays, because I love the peaceful house after a busy weekend and it is very conducive to creating.

On Friday I went to the Melbourne Scrapbook and Papercraft Fair - it was very busy, but I had fun and bought a few goodies and got inspired by a some very talented artists.

I bought a few new yummy stencils and decided I should actually use them rather than just admiring them! So yesterday I got inky - I practised a few times before I completed this card, which was inspired by the TT at Moxie Fab World.

I enjoyed this technique a lot - it's very satisfying.
For this project I used various inks and sponged through the stencil.
I mostly used versa magic ink which  perfect for sponging.
Next time I might try spray mist.
The stencil is from Kaisercraft.

I'd love to hear what you think??
