Metal Bird

Hi there. I had time to craft this afternoon, so I made a card for the CAS Mix Up challenge. The theme is to use metal and I tried the ‘Black Ice’ technique (there’s a video to watch on the blog.

I die cut the bird and blossoms from an aluminium sheet, with a Tim Holtz Sizzix die. In retrospect, I would not use such an intricate die with a metal sheet, as there were lots if tiny filings which could be dangerous ( especially for my dogs)!  I then cut away part of the die cut to make it less busy. I then swiped some stazon ink over the die cut, dried and then swiped versamark and clear embossed. In the video, she stamped images over the metal sheet. I’ll try that next tim, butI do like the effect of adding the black highlights to the die cut. Next I swiped some Distress Oxide accross the card and dried with a heat gun. The sentiment is from Penny Black.

The challenge was trying to get a good photo, but I hope you can see it properly.

  2. So cool!! Love your swiped, bright, pink background. And using the tin for the die-cut works great. Hopefully no one was harmed in the making of this card! :) Play on words from a TV show! :) The bird and blooms is gorgeous with the black highlights. Great work Jenny!! xx

  3. How creative to do the black ice on a die cut, Jenny! I know how hard it is to capture the shimmery beauty of the black ice with the camera! So pretty on the rich, pink background! Thanks for sharing it with CAS Mix Up!
